Reading

This week for our reading we had to read an article about the day of the dead. Then one of the activity's is to answer questions about the story. This is my questions and answers. 


Day of the Dead Comprehension Questions


1. What is Day of the Dead? The Day of the Dead (el Día de los Muertos) is a Mexican holiday where families welcome back the souls of their deceased relatives for a brief reunion that includes food, drink and celebration. 
2. When is Day of the Dead celebrated? the holiday
is celebrated each year from October 31- November 2


3. Where does the Day of the Dead festivity
originate from? Mexico 


4. Who is the 'Lady of the Dead'? LOS MUERTOS


5. Name three things that people do on Day of the
Dead. families go to the cemetery to clean and decorate
the graves.                     Relatives will often celebrate
with a picnic held in the cemetery grounds where they
take special food and beverages for the dead.                   
Children often make childrens altar on october 31st
to incite the angelitos ( spirits of dead children )


6. What is an ofrenda? An ofrenda is a collection of
objects placed on a ritual display during the annual
and traditionally Mexican Día de Muertos celebration. 
7. What is papel picado and how is it used?  Papel
picado is a decorative craft made by cutting
elaborate designs into sheets of tissue paper
Papel picado is considered a Mexican folk art. 


8. What is Finados?  When you translate
Finados to english it means ‘dead’.


9. Where does the celebration of Halloween
come from? Samhain


10. What other festivities are there
that remember the dead? Name two.
